“Never, ever, ever will Renamo give up
the six provinces governance claim,” Ivone Soares told parliament at the
closing session of its current sitting.
The leader of the parliamentary bench of the largest opposition party then issued a challenge to the Frelimo government.
“We appeal to Frelimo not to complicate
the dialogue in the Joint Commission, because we will not back down on
the decision of the people of Mozambique to rescue the power plucked
from them to cover up the crimes in subsequent negotiations,” she said.
Renamo refuses to accept the results of
the general elections in 2014, officially won by Frelimo, and asserts
its right to assume governance in Niassa, Nampula, Zambezia, Tete,
Manica and Sofala, in the north and centre of the country, where it
claims victory.
