MOZAMBIQUE: Mozambican army attacks Renamo base in Gorongosa

The military offensive began at 9a.m. and more than 20 explosions were registered. The Mozambican army held from 9a.m. on Friday, 1 an offensive against the Renamo base in Gorongosa, in Sofala province, a reliable source told VOA.

So far about 20 explosions have been heard and some have occurred in areas where civilians reside “because the military are having difficulty reaching the Renamo base,” said the same source.

For the time being, it remains unknown whether the Renamo president Afonso Dhlakama is on site or not.

VOA continues to follow this offensive of the Mozambican army which comes a day after the expiry of the deadline given by the Renamo to begin to rule in the six provinces of central and northern in the country where it claims to have won the October 2014 elections.
