LOCAL government minister Stephen Kampyongo has regretted PF cadres’ violent attacks on Post photojournalist David Kashiki and UPND youths during the Youth Day celebrations in Lusaka.
Kampyongo, who is PF national youth chairperson, in an interview said he would not defend any of the PF cadres for the violence they perpetrated on Saturday and ordered police to arrest the culprits regardless of their political affiliation.
“That incident was totally regrettable. That was not the platform for people to use to go and be physical and I am saying the police must go in and arrest those that were instigators of that violence regardless of where they are coming from,” Kampyongo said.
“It is as simple as that and that is what the President has said, so I am not going to defend anybody who will be caught in wrong doings because our message has been very clear. If we find out who those youths are, we will discipline them and probably expel them.”
He said he would engage the Lusaka Province youth leadership to help identify the perpetrators of violence in the PF.
“I have been out of Lusaka and when I get back, I will have to sit down with my youth chairman for Lusaka and the rest of the leaders so that we can identify those characters. The language that I am using is what I am going to do even to them,” Kampyongo said.
And Kampyongo challenged other political stakeholders to do the same in their parties.
“We expelled one member who was a nuisance at Inter-City Bus Terminus, you know Innocent Kalimanshi. He is with GBM now and those are the chaps who were in the midst of violence. If we can’t all collectively start condemning these bad elements, we will not get anywhere. We chuck them out of PF, they will end up in UPND and that is what is happening,” said Kampyongo.
