OBVIOUS Mwaliteta says the war against the Patriotic Front leadership which is taking the country in a wrong direction has begun.
And Mwaliteta says he has wisdom to lead despite not having a grade 12 certificate.
Mwaliteta, the Kafue PF member of parliament who resigned from government on Monday, said it was embarrassing to serve in a government that did not care for its people.
He was speaking yesterday in Lusaka after he and Mpongwe PF member of parliament Gabriel Namulambe endorsed the candidature of UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema in the August 11 general elections.
“I want to walk the talk. The war has begun. My coming here is to send a signal to the country that there is something wrong in this country. We thought we were getting somewhere with someone but alas we are doomed. I have come here to endorse the incoming president and the reason is simple, he is ready,” Mwaliteta said amid jubilation at the event attended by Hichilema. He said time for Hichilema to take over the leadership of the country had come.
“I know you are saying Mwaliteta has endorsed HH because he does not have a grade 12 certificate. It is true. I don’t have a grade 12 certificate. I am representing the 75 per cent of uneducated Zambians without a grade 12 certificate. I was not born with a grade 12 certificate but I have wisdom to lead and it will remain with me,” Mwaliteta said.
“..they (PF) only want people with papers. Now this country does not belong to people with papers, it belongs to all of us and I am going to represent my fellow bus drivers because that is where I come from. I will mobilise my fellow taxi drivers and vendors because I come from there and I understand their problems.”
He said if Zambians make a mistake of voting back President Edgar Lungu into office, they would do that at their own peril.
“Fuel is at US$28 per barrel on the international market but the government has not made any indication to reduce fuel; who is getting the difference? Because during the MMD time, fuel was at US$85 per barrel. Sometimes when they are making ministerial statements, I wonder. They are saying we have a lot of maize. Now if we have maize, why don’t we have mealie-meal?” Mwaliteta wondered.
And Mwaliteta said he was not intimidated by the PF cadres who went to throw stones on his roof on Thursday night.
“Even those who are in power today, why should I continue carrying a flag? I left the flag because I thought there was no use to start driving around when the vendors cannot sell salaula because there is no money, it’s an embarrassment. So I said let me come out,” said Mwaliteta. “And I am not intimidated by the PF cadres they have been sending to harass me. On Thursday, the cadres came to my house and started stoning the roof. But I am not scared of them.”
And Namulambe said “thieves are enjoying” in PF.
Namulambe, who said he would not recontest his seat but support the candidate that UPND picks, said some members of his party were stealing because they did not care about the suffering of the masses.
He said the ruling party did not have sound economic policies that could save the country from collapsing.
“We are looking poor in this country because we have failed to manage our economy properly. In this country, we don’t have sound economic policies that can save this nation. Only thieves are enjoying because they don’t sweat for that money. They enter through the window to steal but the rest of the people, the rest of us can’t afford to have that money because they have stolen it,” Namulambe said.
He said President Lungu was running the country on debt and wondered where the country would find the money to repay the loans it had contracted.
“We are running this country on nkongole (debt); we don’t have the money and where are we going to find the money to pay back the loans? We are looking poor because we don’t know how to manage our economy properly,” Namulambe said.
He said Hichilema was better placed to provide solutions to the falling economy.
“I know they will be saying I am useless; leave me alone if I am useless, you will see. If I am not a factor, wait and see,” said Namulambe.
At the same event, Judge Ngoma, who was for a long time one of Michael Sata’s key security personnel, announced his defection to the UPND, vowing that he would ‘kill’ the PF.
“There are certain ministers who are eating in the name of PF, but they were not there when we were going to prison,” said Ngoma.
“Some people say UPND is a party for Tongas, well in that case, I have also become Tonga, I am now Hangoma. I have got a very big job today, I am going to Southern Province. I want to kill the PF. From there, I am going to Eastern Province, the President’s homeland.”
